Alvin Gentry and Dell Demps Status Update

Scott Kushner of the New Orleans Advocate joins me on Locked on Pelicans to give an update on the futures of Alvin Gentry and Dell Demps. Now that the NFL draft is over, how likely is a change in leadership and what might the timeline be for one? Give it a listen, subscribe, and keep reading below.

What jumps out, and is a concern for the majority of Pelicans fans, is how the franchise seems to be a step-child compared to the Saints. Scott says ownership and the people at the tip top (read: Loomis) hate that perception, but the fact remains. It is odd that senior leadership (read: people above Demps) hates something but doesn’t take any steps to correct it. But maybe this is wishful thinking. And even if this isn’t the case, perception is often more important than reality.

This is a minor concern right now as Demps and Gentry are expected to be back next season. But if 2017-2018 is a losing year and the Pelicans clean house?  Should there be any reason to trust Loomis to bring in the right coach/GM? To keep Anthony Davis here in New Orleans? There will be full blown crises among fans with most thinking that Demps and Gentry were kept around a year too long, and now look at the state of the team. Hindsight and all that, you know? Then the deluge of distrust will be even greater.

And give how ownership operates with the Saints there is no reason to expect anything will change. But, hey, maybe the Pelicans will make the playoffs next year and all will be forgiven.
