In the NO Episode 273: Pushing for 8?

Michael and I talk about Jrue, Moore, and the push for the 8th seed in the West. Do we want the Pels to go for it? Trade Jrue? Set Moore free?

We also talk about what the Pelicans can get out of this season, how important this stretch of games is, and if Anthony Davis elevates his team.

Enjoy!

  1. would love to know what you think of Brandon knight in a trade?  What would it take and could we get away with a 2nd and JH or Reke?

  2. I’m really really pulling for them to keep their draft pick. I hate to be in a position to root for the team to lose, but this is a great draft to do it. There is serious quality picks 1 to 10. Drops off though before 15, the spot they would pick if they land the 8th seed.
The best fit, I think out of any player available this year would be Jayson Tatum. Dude is silky smooth and can play the 3 or small ball 4.
It’s hard for me to imagine him falling past 5 or 6, but he was just mocked to us at 8 by a couple sites.

  3. lsutigers33 I know people always call me a pessimist, but in my mind I am just a realist, and a guy like Knight just does nothing for the franchise short term or long. It’s the exact type of thing this franchise keeps doing -adding slightly above average guys that just don’t move the needle and you are just looking to upgrade 10 months later.
Look at how good the teams at the top are. I would argue that even if this franchise added Lebron, they would be a 2nd round playoff team at best. So, in that context, what do I think about Knight? Who cares is my response.

  4. I agree with you on AD honestly. What good is those 29 and 12 rebounds and its not equating to wins in the column? Even when he puts up crazy stats, it seems like hes just coasting lol. He still has ways to go on defense and until we find that guard, it’s gonna be hard for him to win us some games like a Marc Gasol. We prob never will though and he goes to a new team with a star guard and flourishes, its how i see his career panning out.

  5. While a fan of the podcast, I was troubled by the paternalistic, dismissive and broad brush with which you painted the ability of all players to have any criteria other than $ when it comes to the contract dance. It made one think that you regard these guys as children of limited intellect and totally impulsive. Really?
I have several experiences negotiating with NBA players in the past and couldn’t accept your notion of “all”.
