Shamit Dua and I get together and run through an evaluation of the prospects the Pels could be eyeing with the 6th pick of the draft. Well, except for Dragan Bender – whom we don’t know jack about. Then we talk about trading the pick, getting a big man early, if we like Murry, Hield or Dunn, if we pick in the midrange – and some guys we are looking at in the second round.
Enjoy!

The way the prospects in this draft look to me, the first tier has two players and the second tier has five. Since we draft 6th, we will get one of the second tier players. In that second tier are three guards with varying degrees of offense versus defense and youth versus experience. I am listing them in order of my naive personal preference: Buddy Hield, Jamal Murray, and Kris Dunn. I am sure the Pelicans will have a more researched opinion. The other two guys in the second tier are Dragan Bender and Jaylen Brown (who I don’t like for the Pelicans). So…
If either Bender or Brown gets drafted before the Pelicans pick, the Pelicans will get a shot at one of these three guards. If Bender and Brown both get drafted before the Pelicans pick, the Pelicans will get a shot at two of these guards. So go Bender and go Brown. Give us more choice.
Also, this says that, assuming we keep our picks, the real mystery is what the Pelicans do in the 2nd round.
