Game On: Pels host Mavs

The Pels host the Dallas Mavericks tonight in a crucial South West matchup. Dallas won both the previous meetings, but both were close contests. Dallas has become one of the more well rounded teams with addition of star pg Rajon Rondo, improving their perimeter defense by a large margin. The Pels, meanwhile, have lost their pg and best perimeter defender Jrue Holiday almost immediately after trading his backup Austin Rivers. Tyreke Evans and Eric Gordon have helped with the ball handling and distribution (Gordon had a season high 10 assists earlier this week against the Lakers). They’ll have continue their good play to match Dallas’ talented backcourt.

Some keys to the game:

  • Keep up the defense – despite the absence of Holiday, the Pels have only allowed 100pts in one of their last 10 games, while the Mavericks have only broken 100 once in their last 4.  Having allowed 112 and 109 in the first two meetings, the Pels will need to really focus on that end of the floor.
  • PG play – Tyreke has been starting at pg for the pels and has done a decent job distributing, and Gordon has helped as well, but this team is notoriously inconsistent.  Against Rondo, Ellis, and Harris there can’t be sloppy ball handling
  • Anderson – in his last 4 games Ryan Anderson is 11/46 and missed the Pels’ last game against Minnesota.  He is shooting 12% better at home than on the road, and about 15% better from 3.  The Pels need his offense.

Game is at 5CT,  GO PELS
