Trew 2 the Game #20: Short and Sweet, it’s Hell Yes Week

In honor of this week’s Hell Yes Fest (one of the larger comedy festivals in the country, right here in New Orleans), this week’s Trew 2 the Game is gonna be brief and feature a couple of comedy clips.

I think it’s great that Austin Rivers, Tyreke Evans, Eric Gordon, Jrue Holiday and Anthony Davis took the time out of their busy lives to get a production company to film them singing. It’s a little disheartening that they each chose songs that are not current enough to register with today’s youth. Harry Connick Jr. seems a lot more excited about them playing basketball than singing songs. Guess we all have something in common with Harry now.

Bill and Jalen’s preview gets a comedy nod because since this video posted, Simmons has used every opportunity possible to say how he had no idea Anthony Davis would come on this strong. That’s somewhat satisfying for Crescent City Basketball fans. What’s more satisfying is the Apology Party that Grantland is likely throwing for New Orleans during the All-Star Break. We’ll happily attend after our own Block Party (which is alive and well, not resting in peace. Sorry, internet commenters).

Hot off the presses! (No green lights allowed, New Orleans Arena)

Hell Yes Fest begins tonight with a special opening night show at One Eyed Jacks. Other venues include The New Movement, Hi-Ho Lounge, Cafe Istanbul, The Shadowbox, House of Blues and Prytania Theater. Shows run from tonight through this Monday, November 18th. Tickets, lineup and more info can be found on the official page for Hell Yes Fest.

Trew 2 the Game is a weekly column found exclusively on Bourbon Street Shots. It’s also a weekly podcast (also publishing every Tuesday) on It’s New Orleans
