Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon Officially Left Off Team USA

As I predicted yesterday, Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon have been left off of the active Team USA roster for the 2012 Olympic games.

Update: Gordon was “hurt” he was left off team USA because they have 7 guards and they considered him rusty after playing only 9 games last season.

There’s a press conference at 7 CST where this will be made even more officially official, but as of now it’s been reported by CBS Sports that the roster won’t include Davis, Gordon, or Gay. Davis would have been in a much better position to make the team had he not suffered an ankle injury prior to training camp. Unfortunately, he did.

Coach K said of Davis, “He’s been hurt, so he wasn’t even able to practice. We’re hoping in the future he will be part of our USA program.”

Now I’d like to know whether or not he will play in Summer League, assuming he will physically be OK. I’ve contacted the Hornets to get some additional info, but they’ve yet to respond. I’ll keep you posted.

I’m hearing from Marc Spears that USA basketball and the Hornets are in talks to keep Davis on the Select team for the rest of Vegas. Sounds good, I guess. Just being around Team USA will provide valuable experience for him, even if he can’t play.

As for Eric Gordon– Dude must really feel even more disrespected today than he did yesterday. We contacted the Hornets yesterday to get a few minutes with Dell to talk about what’s going on, but we’ve yet to be granted the opportunity to do so. We’ll keep asking though, since it’s clear that every Hornets fan wants to know.

Also, according to Spears, Eric Gordon was hurt by the fact that USA’s roster is overloaded with seven guards and they thought he was a little rusty.

You can’t make this stuff up…

  1. I’ll betcha that when he received the news, Eric had that pissed off expression we’ve all come to know and love.

  2. Hey a Chinese team might have a red carpet and a couple of “fans” with a video so he can say that where his heart truly is….

  3. I hope Davis plays in summer league. If his ankle is healthy, it will give him time to adjust to some of his new teammates and to the NBA game. As far as EG, whatever. Until I hear from Dell, EG doesn’t exist. He’ll get no love here until he earns it. And frankly, I doubt he is interested in earning anything.

  4. and you losers wonder why eric gordon doesnt want to stay in NO?? Its because of people like you. You all are as butt hurt over him as you were back in Jan at the BCS Championship Game. Your town is below sea level, murder capital of the world and just trash over all. Roll Tide Hoo Hoo Hoosiers!!

    • And some of the fans may be in Huntsville. Want to talk bad about Rocket City? Five Points? And the lack of any athlete?

Maybe stay on topic and off locales.

      • on topic like people dont want to play in a shit city thats the murder capitol of our country??

    • Nobody is crying for erica gordan to be back read the comments if wants to leave we don’t care we just want something in return. Also our city is trash no what is Alabama known for besides football nothing and why are you even talking about football in this article because that’s all you guys have.

    • Youre telling me I should pamper a grown man that get paid millions to shoot a ball in the hoop. Really…….

  5. No surprise for either player. If anything, this ought to keep them away from making pacts with other Team USA guys to join up with one another.

  6. USA basketball boss Jerry Colangelo said James Harden two months ago “was on the radar but not shining brightly.” Playoff surge mattered.

So Gordon playing on a trash NO team hurt his chances. gotcha.

    • Do you have a brain? 2 months ago none of these guys would have made it.

There were these three guys around named Howard, Wade and Rose. Not to mention this bloke who plays for the heat.. I think his names Bosh or something.

Next time, you might want to think before you type.

      • you mean like when Eric was on the 2010 Gold Medal world championship team?? You might want to know something before you type.

  7. Hopefully AD will heal and get some playing opportunities in the summer league. He will definitely be in the future of USA Olympics. I hope Coach K spoke to EG personally and told him he did not make the team or he will be bitter and not play for Duke when recruited. Obviously I’m kidding but just in case he reads this, Duke is college dude.

  8. When you say he was hurt, do you mean his chances were hurt by there being 7 other guards, or that his feelings were hurt? Serious question.

  9. The fact that Gordon feels hurt is absolutely hilarious, I am literally laughing right now. It just reaffirms everything we have thought of him recently. #goodriddancegordon

      • If you continue asserting positions without data, you comments will be edited.

You are welcome, but you need to drag the city through the mud with data.

  10. Since Gordon feels hurt and disrespected I think all US teams in the NBA should be on alert. Toronto is now the only place he’ll feel respected, the only place where his heart will be in the future. As possible further options he might *consider* playing in Europe or maybe bless China with his presence and play with Steve Francis … wait, was/is Francis a combo guard or strictly a 1 … can’t remember, but if he’s a combo guard that might rule out China as well. S**t Eric, wathca gonna do now????

  11. I seriously hope we sign n trade this dude. Rumor was that the Rockets was gonna give us Lamb, Jones & something else. I can’t remember but get this sissy off the team

  12. I was hopeful that either Davis or Gordon would have made it just as a Hornets fan but I would be lying if I didn’t say I’m going to watch all the games just to see the CP3 to Tyson Crescent City Connection at least one more time. Never thought it would happen again, I don’t care if it’s not in a Hornets jersey, USA jersey will do just as fine.

      • That green tea isn’t green tea but it’s goooood, especially for a buck.

      • What do you make of the Suns rescinding their qualifying offer to Aaron Brooks? Does this make a sign&trade less or more likely?

      • Im not positive, but I’m pretty sure you can’t trade back to back picks unless you have 2 in 1 year

      • Not 2 in 1 year. You can’t trade back to back unless you recieve a pick in return.

      • How many picks do you think Phoenix has?

This is being addressed in an upcoming FAQ , by the way.

    • I know they have theirs and la’s in 2013, just theirs in 2014, and theirs and la’s in 2015. So I know they can trade their 2013 and 15 picks to us. But I don’t think they can send us their 2013 and 14 picks unless we give them one in return

  13. Reading comprehension!!!! He wasn’t emotionaly hurt that he was not selected to be on the team. The statement was meant to imply that his chances were hurt of making the team because he was rusty and there were 7 guards.

  14. Wish I could decide whether I’d be happier if Gordon came out and apologized and said he was playing a media game… or if the damage is done and I’d like to just trade the guy.

After all the good news we’ve had lately, Gordon really had to get me feeling down about the NBA again. Ugh.

  15. 3 team trade
NO: lamb, white, pekovic and motijunas
Twolves: kevin martin, future 1st rd pick(protected) from NO and rockets 1st rd pick next year
    Rockets: Eric Gordon, webster

    • Bad trade on our part. I don’t think we get enough back and I really don’t like giving up a first. We can probably get Lamb, White, and Motijunas and move K. Martin’s contract in a trade later straight up for Eric Gordon. Even though Gordon is a butt-hurt, crybaby wanna be star, whose feeling got hurt when we offered him 50 mil instead of 58, after only play 9 games, we should get what way more from dealing him.

On an side note, I will be glad when this “max player” is off of our team. We are building something special with the Hornets and we definitely don’t need an ego like his. Hope the Phoenix Suns training treat the other injury he sustained during the 57 games he was out.. A major case of hemorrhoids for sitting his a$$ on the bench for so long!

  16. Eric Gordon is a cry baby, how your in love with a city after 1 visit? Lol
This guy should just try out for the spice girls or something. He’s shown signs of stardom but does he deserve that max offer (no). Jamal Crawford is better than him I can’t remember him having a max offer. I’ll take Shannon Brown for less and keep building go hornets.
