3-on-3: Previewing Hawks @ Hornets

The New Orleans Hornets take on the Hawks tonight at the arena. This will in all likelihood mark the last time we ever think of the attendance mandate.

On the left you can see Morris Bart face-to-face with will Ferrell. Jason Sudeikis is the fellow in the black hat. On the right, you can see a Hornet in it's only habitat in New Orleans.

1. Which matchup most favors the Hawks?

Chris Trew: The Atlanta fan base might be a little more fired up for the Hawks considering they gave up on their football team pretty early this season. I know that tonight’s game is in New Orleans so this doesn’t really matter but man, do you remember the pounding the Saints put on the Falcons? I do.

Jake Madison:  I know Belinelli had a solid game against the Magic, but I’m not a believer in him so the Hawks have an advantage at shooting guard. Joe Johnson can be a beast offensively and they do have the Willie Green backing him up. Actually, this matchup favors the Hornets if Green sees extended playing time.

Ryan Schwan:  Power Forward.  Josh Smith is an excellent all-around player even if he does take too many stupid long jumpers.  Landry and Jason Smith are both only good at one thing – scoring.  They may match Josh Smith in that department, but not really anywhere else.

2. Which matchup most favors the Hornets?

Chris: Chris Paul is long gone and we’re all mostly okay with it, but I still believe that we can hang that 2005 draft over Atlanta’s head for a real long time. So I’ll say the matchup that most favors the Hornets is everyone knowing how much more successful New Orleans is as a sports city.

Jake: Point guard. Jarrett Jack might be having his best season yet and he’ll continue that level of play tonight. Jack is assisting on 36% of the Hornets’ shots and has stepped up and become the Hornets’ go-to guy in crunch time. This game will be close and I expect Jack will be the difference maker for the Hornets.

Ryan: Chris Paul is clearly a better draft pick than Marvin Williams and should simply DOMINATE the Hawks.  Oh, wait . . . how am I supposed to get digs at the Atlanta fan base now?

3. Care to make some predictions about the game?

Chris: Hornets lose a close one (which is actually a win for the 2012-2013 Hornets), Atlanta enjoys a night at Harrah’s, I enjoy mocking the Atlanta Falcons and Chris Jericho wins the Royal Rumble.

Jake: I smell a two game winning streak coming on, and it smells as good as bbq from The Joint!

Ryan: This game will be a slug fest, and the Hornets will take a lead into the half.  They will surrender that as the defense tightens and the Hawks get serious in the second half.

  1. The last time the attendance mandate is an issue? You guys know something you want to share w/Hornets fans? Is a new agreement w/the state coming soon? News about new ownership coming soon?

    • It will only be an issue again if we don’t make it tonight or if we fail to have a new lease come next February 1.

In the case of the former, it should be no issue, but I’d like to avoid the remote possibility.

In the case of the latter, we will not make the benchmark.

      • If we don’t make the benchmark, the team could opt out. I don’t think stern would do that. If they really want a team in new Orleans, then they just strategically don’t opt out and continue negotiating a new lease. Or, to put pressure on the state, they opt out to make the state think they’re going to leave.

In other words, if anyone else not from the city owned the team, I’d be nervous because that person might opt out and
        Leave. Stern won’t.

  2. Im down w keeping the name. Drop the blue, or teal, or aqua, or creole or whatever that ambiguous color is and change it to green. Carnival colors, ppl will get behind it. And drop the pinstripes. That sucks for a basketball team. I’m in

  3. By next month Howard will be a Laker,Bynum be a rental to the Magic because the Lakers are going to get desperate sine they lost out on CP3.I know one thing they’re going to be some centers in different cities this summer think about it De Andre Jordan will be somewhere else that will involved in a 3 team trade with the Knicks,Clippers and Magic Bynum going to the Knicks,Jordan to the Magic and Chandler to the Clippers to be with CP3.I’ve a feeling thats it’s going to happen draft picks and other players included in those trade we’re talking about blockbuster trades. As for Hornets for the present I like the Rockets trade because you Tabeet a 7’3 center you can develop into a top center in the offseason so his game can be develop and with Okafor there til 2013 will be a big help,Flynn is a young PG in due time he’ll be a decent one and with Hill or Patterson as the third player in the trade will be good bench players and more beef on the defensive end of the court.I would want Montejunas in the trade but it’s a 50-50 on that happening but an draft pick would be great instead. You can use the third draft pick as a chip to get an top 20 player “maybe” because we can’t be a team to have 3 1st rd picks then you’ll be rebuliding for the next few years. An new owner(s) will want results now rather than later you must remember once theres new ownership more freedom to make moves instead of Stern making the approvals.

  4. lol busy talking crap to atlanta fans about the falcons. while the hornets continue to look horrible. at least the falcons made it into the playoffs. while the hornets will be lucky if they get a headstone for being crushed so horrible.
