The New Orleans Hornets announced today that they have requested waivers on forward Lance Thomas. Thomas, a Duke University product, appeared in two regular season games, averaging 0.5 points. In two preseason games (both starts), he averaged 3.5 points and 4.5 rebounds. It appears that Gustavo Ayon will be utilized more often as he is now the Hornets fifth big man.
The Hornets roster now stands at 14.

Best wishes to Lance Thomas.
I’m a gustavowed Hornets fan and ayon know what to expect from the new big man.
I appreciate this. Want a pair of balcony tickets to the Sixer’s game Wednesday?
Yes! if you still have them, thanks for the thought!
Lance Thomas did good things when he was a hornet and I wish nothing but the best for this man
Agreed. Wouldn’t mind seeing him back in a Hornet uniform down the road.
Why would we do this unless we needed the roster spot? Is it common for teams to carry fewer than 15 on purpose? Any rumors out there?
I can think of a few reasons.
One could be that the extra body is just a distraction. Another possibility is to just have the slot open in case there is something planned, or maybe just be prepared. It could be that another team wants to pick him up . . . maybe the Toros . . . and he’d rather play than not, so they are doing him a favor.
