Hornets Bring Back Carl Landry

Update– The agent for free agent forward Carl Landry, Mark Bartelstein, confirms he’ll return to New Orleans on one-year, $8.75 million deal.

The Hornets will bring back forward Carl Landry, according to the Times-Picayune. If the deal is in fact just one year, like Woj is reporting, that would enable the Hornets to keep their future cap space available AND brings them another quality trade piece on a nice contract if they decide to deal the veterans to contenders halfway through the season. It’s expected Landry will be the starting power forward on what is all of a sudden looking like a pretty decent Hornets team.

  1. This is a big win for the Hornets. Landry played his heart out for us after West went down. I believe he will continue to do the same. Also, Okafor, Landry Kaman, Aminu is a nice 4/5 rotation!

  2. Suh-WEET!! This is such great news; gotta go buy a Landry jersey for games this year, he’s been nothing but a class act and had great things to say about the team, the fans, and the organization. Welcome back Carl, great to have you on board again.

  3. things are FINALLY coming together; so excited that Landry is our starting PF, so heres the lineup now
    Jack/???
    Gordon/ belinelli
    Ariza/ Aminu/Q-pon
    LANDRY :D/Jason smith??? (maybe)
    Okafor/Kaman

looks good to me.. so we just need a PG (starter or backup as i think jack is very capable of starting) and the team looks competitive

  4. Smith has an offer out there too. Let’s see if our hustler is back.

I think this seals the deal: Marcus-Carl trade is a win for all parties.

    • He owes the Hornets for reviving his career, even if it’s a one year 4mill deal. He knows system and earned PT last year with hustle and midrange jumper. Has good size as well. They are a change of pace backup PG and they can be competitive although I wouldn’t mind tanking either.

  5. So now we need a PG because the Todd Bridges stunt double we have is only a backup player. He can’t run this team, he’s an ok back up but that’s all. So let’s hit the market and find a starting PG and the future will be looking better.

    • Only ones really available is Baron Davis, Gilbert Arenas, Rodney Stucky(RFA). if the hornets does target a PG I think it would be Stuckey, but I think they will roll with Jarrett Jack in the end. He can put up at least 10 ppg!!Our current Big 3 is Eric Gordon 22ppg, Carl Landry at least 16 ppg this year, and Chris Kaman while healthy 17ppg, but our next step is finding more back-ups on a team that’s on there way up!! the most important step we can do is making a statement in trying to get to the playoffs so that EG10 would want to stay. which means “CHEMISTRY” is a must!

  6. Im’ so glad to have LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LANNNNNNNDRYYYYYY back on the squad. He’s got a nice body to him that can hold up well, create havoc down in the paint and get his buckets. Couple that with Chris “Kane” Kaman along with Emeka, we’ve got ourselves a nice big and tall lineup with EG now that can drill the 3. I like this.

There should be a journal or blog out here for corny nicknames that we dub the players… Like Jarrett Jack = Cheddar. A scrappy yet endearing player that can hustle up and down the court and also looks like a rat in some cases. Also, Marco Belineli aka “Pass The Pasta” to play off his Italian heritage and roots. Corny? Yes. Awesome. Yes it is because it also helps us fall in love again with this scrappy and competitive team.

I’m excited to see Monty work his magic with the newcomers on the roster to see what they are made of.

  7. Im confused…8.75M seems a lot for him, im just wondering if this deal (1 yr) was just to get to the 85% cap floor. I really dont think Carl is a almost 9M player, but its good to see that the team is moving foward now that CP is gone.

  8. I don’t think the price is all that bad for a starting PF of Carl’s caliber. I’d rather him than some of the other guys the Hornets have in camp right now.
