President Obama’s fundraising arm, the Obama Victory Fund, has announced that they will be holding a celebrity basketball event on December 12th. Yay. Another chance to watch the players pretend to play a basketball game while really just taking turns on offense. Sick. Of. It.
Not so sick that I stopped reading. After all, this lockout has left me starved for any scrap of actual basketball news I can find, and it’s not every day that the POTUS decides to get a game together. The details past the initial headline make it seem a bit superior to a number of the other exhibitions that have taken place. Maybe even watchable from an NBA fan’s perspective.
Chris Paul is expected to be the only current New Orleans player on the roster, but he’s far from the only star. All four of the top players from ESPN’s NBA Rank will be in attendance, as will a number of executives from around the NBA, who gave permission for it’s employees to fraternize with players during this event, which means we will be seeing Alonzo Mourning in action for the first time since 2007, along with Doc Rivers and Patrick Ewing.
Here’s a list of players expected to attend-
Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire, Kevin Durant, Dwight Howard, Derek Fisher, Jamal Mashburn, Steve Smith, Jerry Stackhouse, Brandon Knight, Ray Allen, Vince Carter, Tyson Chandler, Jamal Crawford, Baron Davis, Rudy Gay, Blake Griffin, Tyler Hansbrough, Juwan Howard, Antawn Jamison, Dahntay Jones, Kevin Love, Cheryl Miller, Reggie Miller, Dikembe Mutombo, Quentin Richardson, Tina Thompson, John Wall and Russell Westbrook.
As for Obama himself, it’s not known whether or not he will lace it up.
No word on whether anyone will be bringing their defensive skills to the contest. Hopefully someone does. Otherwise those who paid between 100 and 5,000 dollars might be disappointed.

So this is hypocrisy at its best. A bunch of 1%’ers raising money for another 1%’er, while they are on strike as per their union in order to get the guy that supports the OWS protesters re-elected so he can raise the taxes on the very people that are playing in this game. Who is more stupid in this whole thing?
A few things.
1. Hypocrisy means something different then you think it does, or you haven’t explained what you mean properly.
2. The Players are not on strike. They were locked out.
3. Personal income taxes have very little/nothing to do with this
Pardon my bias…but what do you think the stand is of these particular players is?
Pro or against the last management offer?
My guess is this is a large sampling of all against.
And as such, this player clique is exactly what is causing the continuation of the season killing.
Those that can get offers from Europe, those that can get invited to popular player parties or fundraisers…these are all the very same that stood loud and demanded the brotherhood song.
To hell with the poorer, more average player. I don’t give a damn what they say about the reason for the stand…it is for the benefit of a few that this goes on.
NO WAY in hell will a lower wage earner in this game EVER get the salary loss from this season back.

I just read on ESPN that they’re going to have a game here in New Orleans on Dec. 4th. Has anyone else heard about this? If so, any specifics?
