New Orleans Hornets Buzz Patrol Auditions are This Saturday

The New Orleans Hornets are looking for energetic, reliable and hardworking Hornets fans to audition for the 2011-2012 Buzz Patrol Interactive Squad presented by McDonald’s! The Buzz Patrol is made up of enthusiastic men and women, 18 years of age or older, who display the ultimate in Hornets spirit while getting “The Hive” buzzing each game night! Members play an integral role in community events and the Hornets game night experience by leading the crowd in chants, hosting contests, throwing t-shirts and simply entertaining the best fans in the NBA!

Registration is from 12:00-1:00 PM
Auditions will take place from 1:00-4:00 PM

*Auditions will take place in Hall C which is also known as the Hornets Practice Facility. Parking is free and is open in the front of this hall. Please look for signs that indicate the doors you will enter through.

From Eastbank By Way Of Huey P. Long Bridge:
Take Hwy. 90. The first traffic light is 9/10 of a mile from the foot of the Westbank side of the bridge. Westbank Expressway exit is 1/2 mile from traffic light. Go right on Hwy. 90 East for 2 miles to a Stop sign. Continue on 90 East. You should see Alario Center’s marquee sign. Turn right on Segnette Blvd. (Note: The Alario Center is 2.7 miles from the foot of the Huey P. Long Bridge.)

From Downtown New Orleans:
Crescent City Connection Bridge to overhead Westbank Expressway. Continue on expressway as it goes to ground level. Stay on the ground level Westbank Expressway as it goes through Marrero and Westwego (you will go through NINE traffic lights). You will pass Bayou Segnette State Park on your left. Then the second traffic light past the State Park will be Segnette Blvd. Turn left. You should see the Alario Center from the Westbank Expressway.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years of age as of 09/17/2011 (Valid government issued photo I.D. required)
  • Must be a high school graduate (verification required by providing a copy of your diploma or proof of college enrollment)
  • Must provide a copy of your Fall 2011 class schedule (applicable for college students only)
  • Must have housing in or around the New Orleans area.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be in excellent physical shape with high energy and movement ability.
  • Must be able to arrive three and a half hours prior to tip-off (i.e. 3:30 PM for a normal 7:00 PM tip-off.)
  • Must be able to work (30+) games which fall on weekdays, weekends, holidays, etc.
  • Must be able to attend a staff orientation as well as multiple training camps held throughout the season (beginning in October.) Attendance at each of these events is mandatory.

What role does the Buzz Patrol play at Hornets games?
The Buzz Patrol is a high-energy group of talented men and women who can be found entertaining fans outside at Buzz Fest or leading the Hornets players onto the court with the H O R N E T S flags. The Buzz Patrol can also be found on the court and in the stands assisting fans with multiple contests as well as leading them in various chants. In the community, the Buzz Patrol can be found enhancing events with their high energy, their fun dance moves and their entertaining props.

Is being a member of the Buzz Patrol a full-time job?
No, being a member of the Buzz Patrol is a part-time, seasonal job opportunity that begins in October 2011 and ends in July of 2012. Aside from Hornets home games, members will also have opportunities to work events in the community throughout the entire year.

How many games and appearances will I be required to work for the 2011-2012 Season?
It is mandatory that Buzz Patrol members work a minimum of 30 home games during the season (although members should anticipate working more than 30.) Appearance requests for the Buzz Patrol are made throughout the season and members must be willing to attend those appearances when assigned. In addition to games and appearances, members must attend an orientation and several training camps throughout the season. Attendance at these events is mandatory.

What is the game day arrival time for Buzz Patrol members?
All Buzz Patrol members are required to arrive three and a half hours prior to tip-off (i.e. 3:30 PM for a normal 7:00 PM tip-off.)

What do Buzz Patrol members wear at games and appearances?
All Buzz Patrol members are provided an official Buzz Patrol uniform. Members are responsible for maintaining these uniforms throughout the season. Members must show up to games and events with all required uniform pieces.

Do I need entertainment experience?
We are seeking team players who have the ultimate Hornets spirit and can energize our crowd of 18,000+ screaming fans! Gymnastics, break dancing/street dancing, cheerleading (i.e. partner stunting,) tumbling, jump roping or acting experience is preferred.

Do I need to prepare anything for the auditions?
Candidates will have the opportunity to show us their talents in various portions of the audition process. Please be prepared to show us what you’ve got and do not hold back!

What is the age requirement for auditions?
You must be 18 years of age by September 17, 2011.

What characteristics are most important to be a successful Buzz Patrol member?
All members must be team players, extremely energetic, hardworking, prompt and reliable. Members must be able to entertain in a family-oriented environment. Of course…members must also be HUGE Hornets fans!

Do I have to pre-register for auditions?
Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ups are welcome. To pre-register, please fill-out the registration form and fax or email it according to the instructions located on the bottom of the form.

What do I need to bring to auditions?
Please bring a government issued photo I.D., a copy of your High School diploma or proof of college enrollment, a copy of your Fall 2011 class schedule (if you are a college student,) your printed application (if you have pre-registered,) and ENERGY! You will also be required to sign a release and publicity form prior to auditioning.

What should I wear to auditions?
Athletic attire and non-marking sneakers (i.e. no black soles.) Candidates are encouraged to show their style but must dress appropriately.

May I bring a friend, parent, child to tryouts?
Auditions are closed to the public. Please do not bring guests (including family and children) to any part of the tryouts. If you have a friend who you think will be good for the team, go ahead and bring him or her with you!
