Dear CP3,
First off, I want to wish you a quick recovery from your surgery and hope to see you back on the court soon. Ok, now down to business.
Chris, I am writing to you with one humble suggestion: come home. You remember this place right? Winston-Salem, West Forsyth High School, Wake Forest University; the roots of your basketball career. This is where you got your start, and on behalf of the great state of North Carolina, I extend this invitation to once again continue your domination of the sport you love here, close to the people and places that you love.
I know you’re dedicated to the city of New Orleans, but take a step back and look at your situation. The favorite oop to your alley, Tyson Chandler, has been traded away (twice!), you’ve seen numerous teammates leave town in exchange for cap relief, and after this year’s Superbowl, the Hornets are trapped shadow of the Saints’ success. Do you really want to play second fiddle to Drew Brees? Believe me; Jake Delhomme would not be stealing your limelight. As a matter of fact, I’m tempted to offer you the Panthers’ quarterback job too, but I’ll leave that for another day. North Carolina is a basketball state, as evidenced by the fierce rivalries of the Tobacco Road schools you experienced while at Wake Forest. You always pack the house when you play here, which lets me say with confidence that you can help establish a relevance for the NBA in Charlotte that this city has never seen.
As for your championship aspirations, well the Hornets and Bobcats seem to be in pretty similar situations. At best, both are first round playoff outs. But with you running the break with Crash and Captain Jack, the team from Queen’s City becomes a force to be reckoned with in the East. Plus, you’ll be playing for a Hall of Fame coach in Larry Brown and (if the rumors are true) a legendary team owner in Michael Jordan.
I’m not asking you to demand a trade. Heck, I would be willing to wait for your contract to expire. I just ask that you remember your past and the potential for your future waiting here in North Carolina. Come on home, we miss you.
Sincerely,
A Charlotte Bobcats Fan
PS: If this is completely and utterly unconvincing, please forward to Stephen Curry.
