Pelicans Lose a Surprisingly Fun Game

Published: April 11, 2016

James Ennis put up 29. Toney Douglas added another 21. Heck, Omer Asik even scored 14. Yes, this wasn’t the team we expected to watch before this season started, but it was fun. Despite the solid play from our fill-ins, the Bulls prevailed and handed the Pelicans their 51st loss.

There are only a couple of things to take away from tonight’s game. First, at least a couple of these guys have earned a contract this off-season. Second, and more importantly, the Pelicans have locked in to the 6th place for the NBA lottery. There is one more game left, but this season is all but in the books. I wish I could say it was fun, but we know it was a pretty significant bummer.

Say it with me, “There’s always next year.”

Since I like to look at the glass as half full, I’m gonna say this season provided us with some bench players for next year. Man, how many more years of season-ending injuries can we stand?  Hopefully our fortunes will turn sooner than later.  Of course there are rumblings that big shakeups are in store for the Pelicans and I’m personally hoping that none of them include Joe Dumars but if they do, I’d prefer to give him an opportunity than to continue with Mickey Loomis and Dell Demps.  If Santa is giving presents in April then it would be Jeff Van Gundy.  We have so many areas of need and it’s going to be an interesting off-season to see how this unfolds.
