Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon Officially Left Off Team USA

As I predicted yesterday, Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon have been left off of the active Team USA roster for the 2012 Olympic games.

Update: Gordon was “hurt” he was left off team USA because they have 7 guards and they considered him rusty after playing only 9 games last season.

There’s a press conference at 7 CST where this will be made even more officially official, but as of now it’s been reported by CBS Sports that the roster won’t include Davis, Gordon, or Gay. Davis would have been in a much better position to make the team had he not suffered an ankle injury prior to training camp. Unfortunately, he did.

Coach K said of Davis, “He’s been hurt, so he wasn’t even able to practice. We’re hoping in the future he will be part of our USA program.”

Now I’d like to know whether or not he will play in Summer League, assuming he will physically be OK. I’ve contacted the Hornets to get some additional info, but they’ve yet to respond. I’ll keep you posted.

I’m hearing from Marc Spears that USA basketball and the Hornets are in talks to keep Davis on the Select team for the rest of Vegas. Sounds good, I guess. Just being around Team USA will provide valuable experience for him, even if he can’t play.

As for Eric Gordon– Dude must really feel even more disrespected today than he did yesterday. We contacted the Hornets yesterday to get a few minutes with Dell to talk about what’s going on, but we’ve yet to be granted the opportunity to do so. We’ll keep asking though, since it’s clear that every Hornets fan wants to know.

Also, according to Spears, Eric Gordon was hurt by the fact that USA’s roster is overloaded with seven guards and they thought he was a little rusty.

You can’t make this stuff up…
