2011 HORNETS OFF-SEASON CURTIS KING AS DELL DEMPS

Wow my first journal on Hornets247.com, I will submit the best journal of what GM Dell Demps should do this off-season for the hornets to be succesful in the future. We sill start off with DAVID WEST and how his injury is unforunate but also a blessing in diguise. The hornets will be able to keep him because teams are not going to take a chance with his knee because he is 30 years old. The hornets will either sign him to a long-term deal or he will accept the final year of his contract to prove he can still play on the allstar level.

CARL LANDRY

The hornets will have an easier time signing Carl Landry than Marcus Thornton would have been. Landry will be estatic to sign with the hornets after his first playoffs and he is also undersize so alot of teams will not come after him so we will definetly be in a hornets uniform next season.

TREVOR ARIZA

I understand that Trevor Ariza is a great defender but for the hornets to take it to the next level they need balance. He is only shooting 39% from the field not to mention he plays with Chris Paul and only shoots 30% from the arc. This is not acceptable for an NBA player let alone a starter. I would trade him for a 2nd round pick and cap space.

HORNETS FREE AGENTS

RESTRICTED

MARCO BELINELLI
JASON SMITH

UNRESTRICTED

MARCUS BANKS
AARON GRAY
WILLIE GREEN
CARL LANDRY
D.J. MBENGA
DAVID WEST

The only hornets free agent that will be back is Aaron Gray, Carl Landry and David West. I would only be willing to bring back Willie Green for the player minimum.

HORNETS POTENTIAL TARGET

TYSON CHANDLER
JR SMITH
ANTHONY PARKER
MICHAEL PIETRUS
JASON RICHARDSON
KRIS HUMPHRIES
NAZR MOHAMMED
JOEL PRZYBILLA
TROY MURPHY
JAMAL CRAWFORD

I have to be realistic when signing players this offseason with our budget. We can definetly be contenders in the west with the signing of these players I would target. Jason Richardson, Mickael Pietrus, and Kris Humphries. We need 1 more big man and a scorer at shooting guard. We also will need someone to knock down 3’s and defend at small forward. Kris Humphries average a double double and we could use rebounding since we are only 22nd in the league. Our potential team would be great and could contend every night with Chris Paul leading this team. I also believe we could sign Anthony Parker.

STARTERS

PG CHRIS PAUL
SG JASON RICHARDSON
SF MICKAEL PIETRUS
PF DAVID WEST
C EMEKA OKAFOR

BENCH

CARL LANDRY
JARRET JACK
ANTHONY PARKER
KRIS HUMPHRIES
QUINCY PONDEXTER
AARON GRAY
DAVID ANDERSON

THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST WE CAN DO IN THE OFF-SEASON AND MOST REALISTIC. THEY SHOULD HIRE ME IN THE FRONT OFFICE FOR THE HORNETS IF THEY WANT TO COMPETE SORRY DELL DEMPS.

  1. Love your breakdown and targets and I completely agree with you on the West issue. As for Ariza, nobody dislikes his game more than I do, but remember how bad Okafor looked last season and how an extra offseason and some more time with CP3 helped him blossom. We can’t just keep giving up on guys after one season- you win in the NBA by building chemistry.

Would love to see J Rich as our starting SG next season. Here’s my other question- what kind of contract do you think Kris Humphries gets? The guy is averaging a double double and is young. Wont he get at least 7 mil per? And if so, how can we afford him, Landry, and West?

    • You are right about chemistry but i totally agree with you about Kris Humphries he would be out of our range so i came up with a solution. I said trade Trevor Ariza in the off-season for cap space and a second round pick. That would leave us with about 14 mil before signing Carl Landry. I say sign Landry to 3 yr/6.50mil. which would leave us 8mil to play with plus our MLE and peja trade exception worth 5 mil. JRICh 3 year/5mil. Michael Pietrus 2yr/4mil. and with our MLE we would sign Andrei Kirilenko because he doesnt want to rebuild with the Jazz who are starting over. How would that do Mike?

      • Sounds great, but the new CBA will have to cooperate. Will there be a hard cap? Revenue sharing? More severe lux tax penalties?

That is going to be the key. Also, I think someone will overpay J Rich, since he is the only legit unrestricted SG on the market. If we can get him for 5 mil per year, that would be a steal!

    • the thing is, Ariza’s meshing good with CP3, Ariza just can’t damn shoot that ball. And he’s career has proven(except for that magical lakers 0809 season) that he’s not a 36~39% 3pt shooter we hoped for. I’d love it if he could at least make his offensive shortcomings average with 2 offseasons with CP3, but something tells me that won’t be the case.

  2. by far my favorite lineup out of the articles. mightnt fit under cap but if we didnt bother with anthony parker, resigned belli then that would save a bit of money or if u managed dorrel wright instead of both pietrus and carter. i dno i like the landry humphries and richardson (and obviously west) signings. not so sure if parker would be worth the money.

but in the David West goes to the Moscow Nets scenario. Kris humphries and re-signing landry would ease the pain for me. or even if david opted out, a sign and trade with west and beli or green for humphries and sasha/morrow would not be to bad would it?

    • true if we could sign and trade david west for kris humphries and anthony morrow that would ease the pain and sign mickael pietrus, andrei kirilenko and Chris Douglas Roberts

  3. I agree with you especially with Micahel and nikkoewan, I really don’t have anything to add up…

  4. I’d really love to see Tyson Chandler back… I didn’t like him that much when he was here but I miss him. I feel like we far overpay Okefor, but I don’t hate him. I don’t know about Parker, he’s getting up there in age. If we lost D west and got Tyson back I could live with that, but the market for him might get brutal. But doesn’t the current CBA last until the end of next season?

  5. Also, you don’t think Mbenga is worth bringing back for the small salary we pay him? He contributed this year… and anything we could do to free up the $2.5 or so we pay Anderson would be nice… We have a history of paying people way too much.
