More than just a game..

*Warning: This post is very personal*

To me, basketball is more than just a game. It will always be more than a game to me. I went through a rough patch in my life where everything seemed bleak and I had no reason to be excited except for the Hornets game. Every single day, I would look forward to the time when I could turn on the TV to channel 37, 25, or 35 to catch Chris Paul and the Bees take on another opponent. Every time I watched the game, I had this surging feeling of pride. Pride for this city that I have had the great pleasure of calling my home for my whole life, pride for everything that this city has overcame and endured. Now here I am, a year later, a much more happy, thankful young woman who takes pride in her team whether they are winning or losing and happy that she has a secret backup feel-good plan that no one can steal from her and that is her boys, (not the Saints..but on that note, Geaux Saints!) the Hornets. Chris Paul has been my idol ever since the first Hornets game that I had attended which, I remember, was a home game against the Suns and we had picked up my older brother from the airport and we headed straight over to the Arena. We won that night and though I didn’t even know half the name of those players, I knew that I wanted to be part of that rocking arena and I was proud. Very, very proud. Coming back to the present, I am now more involved in my life outside of the game of basketball but I will never forget the Hornets, who I can honestly say, have given me life, given me motivation that you can achieve your goals no matter what. It feels odd to me, calling it a game because to me, it is definitely more than just a game.
