We mainly talk about basketball here on Bourbon Street Shots, but sometimes things are much bigger than free agents, the rotation, or the future of the franchise.

The flooding in Louisiana is one of those.

Many, many people have said things far more eloquently than what we’re capable of here, but we want you all to know that everyone here at BSS has anyone affected by the flooding in our thoughts and prayers. Whether we live in the state or not, everyone here has ties to Louisiana and we’re hoping for a quick recovery. We’d also encourage anyone to donate what they can, whether that is money, food, supplies, anything, and volunteer if possible.

The Pelicans (and Saints) have also pledged their support to the relief and recovery efforts. Some of what they are doing includes:

  • Utilizing the teams’ training facilities (Saints Practice Facility Lobby Museum, 5800 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA 70003) to serve as a collection point for the public for non-perishable food items and other flood related items of need including toiletries, infant supplies and everyday items of use. (August 17-25 during regular business hours; see info below)
  • Collection of the above mentioned items during New Orleans Saints open training camp practices (August 22-24)
  • Members of the Saints and Pelicans administrative staffs serving as volunteers at the Second Harvest Food Bank’s Community Kitchen and helping prepare packaged meals to those affected by the flooding on August 18
  • Volunteering with the American Red Cross in Baton Rouge on August 20-21

In addition to the above mentioned initiatives, there will be opportunities announced next week for fans to participate in relief and recovery efforts. Please think about volunteering if you have the time to do so.
