Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon combined for 47 points and the Pelicans beat the Miami Heat 93-90 in their last preseaon game on Ochsner’s Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the Smoothie King Center. In a game that saw a lot of starters see a lot of minutes, the short-handed Pels managed to hold on to win despite shooting 33.3% from the field and the abscence of Omer Asik, Tyreke Evans, Quincy Pondexter, and Norris Cole (+ a couple more).

Anthony Davis (2/3 from 3) and Anderson (2/5 from 3) hit on two 3 pointers within the final 3 minutes to put the Pels up 87-83, and the Pels made their free throws from then on out to seal deal. Anderson has shot 40% from deep this preseason, a welcomed sight after struggling this past year; and Davis has showed off his new skill too, hitting 7/13 from beyond the arc in 6 preseason games.Neither team shot the ball particularly well, but in a close, entertaining matchup, the Pelicans 3-pt shooting(13/28) just pushed them over the edge (Miami 5/14).

Eric Gordon looked promising in an increased role, seeing 36 minutes (most of all the Pels) and knocking dow 4/9 from deep. He finished the game with 22 points on 16 shots, 6/6 from the line, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and just 1 turnover.

The Pels’ second unit looked…pieced together…which it is. Nate Robinson and Alonzo Gee struggled some, Bo McCaleb failed to score but racked up 4 assists in 12 minutes, while Bryce Dejean-Jones scored 13 points on 5 shots.

But most important of all, no one got hurt and everyone who played feels good. The only thing to do now is hope for a speedy recover for all the injured players and to get decked out and hyped up for the Season Opener, just a week away now. Flock up! The flappening is happening!
