Alexis Ajinca To Miss 4-6 Weeks

Pelican Center Alexis Ajinca strained his right hamstring in the first half of this past weekend’s preseason game against the Indiana Pacers and is expected to be out for 4 to 6 weeks. This is not too much to fret about, the backup could be back in time for New Orleans’ season opener in Golden State, and if not, won’t miss much time. The French front court reserve had a breakout season of sorts last year, averaging a career high 6.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game off the bench. Ajinca proved his worth as his number was called quite a few times, appearing in 68 regular season games, as injuries held fellow front court mates Omer Asik, Anthony Davis, and Ryan Anderson out for stretches. He signed a 4-year $20 million dollar contract with New Orleans this summer.

His absence could open up some preseason playing time for Pelican forward Jeff Adrien as he looks to make the final roster. We could also see some more of Kendrick Perkins, who logged almost 10 minutes in Saturday’s preseason opener. But hopefully we just see a speedy return for the 7’2″ Center. This preseason is crucial for the team as they learn a new system and seek to build off their first round exit last season. Get well soon Alexis!
