New Orleans Pelicans Claim Five NBA All-Star Ballot Slots

The NBA All-Star weekend is returning to New Orleans, February 14th – 16th, 2014. The game will be broadcast on TNT. This Friday marked the first day of voting. The ballot can be found here. Voting closes Monday, January 20th.

Fans can vote for five starters from each conference. Coaches from each conference will decide each team’s reserves. Like last year, the ballot contains 60 players from each conference split into two categories, 24 backcourt players and 36 frontcourt players. Voters will select 3 frontcourt players and 2 backcourt players from each conference. The voting process has become even more social media friendly this year by allowing fans to vote via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Five Pelicans are on the ballot. Jrue Holiday and Eric Gordon will be featured as backcourt players. Ryan Anderson, Tyreke Evans, and Anthony Davis will all be available options for frontcourt players.

Notes

  • The first time since New Orleans hosted the game was in 2008. A lot of people have forgotten how important that weekend was for keeping the team here for the long term. New Orleans put on an amazing show and party (no surprise there), while letting the entire world know there were enough dedicated fans to support a team. The weekend couldn’t have gone better for the team or franchise.
  • Guys, vote for Anthony Davis. Tell your friends and family to vote. The fact of the matter is this guy is on pace to have a remarkable season and not just for his age, but the sad fact is a lot of fans don’t know that. Frankly, he won’t get the votes he deserves, because he is young and in a small market. Make him a talking point for the entire weekend by voting him to be the youngest starter on the Western conference squad.
  • Ryan Anderson is one of my favorite players, and we have clearly missed him dearly this season. If he comes back soon and is everything he can be, he will almost be a shoo-in for the 3-point contest. However, Ryno has his sights on another All-Star Weekend competition, the Dunk Contest. Get on Twitter and Facebook and ask the world to #LetRynoDunk.

Lastly, we’re launching an All-Star 2014 are of the site. Here is the link.

  1. Hey everyone, why don’t we start a campaign similar to “I’m In” to increase awareness of the upcoming All-Star weekend in New Orleans and to promote the idea of having Anthony Davis as a starter?
I do apologize for copy-pasting here but I had already written a post about this yesterday at atthehive.com
    In 2003 http://www.thebirdwrites.com/2013/11/18/5119256/how-to-make-anthony-davis-an-all-star# was a rookie and He surpassed Shaquille O’Neal (a 3-time http://www.sbnation.com/nba-finals
MVP at that time) in voting to become the starting center for the
Western Conference All-Star team. So, it is a matter of who gets the
most vote and who wants to be watched the most!
I believe http://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/157860/anthony-davis deserves to be an All-Star even at this young age of 20.
And we can make him an
all-star. All we have to do is to vote as many times as we can every day
until voting closes in 64 days from now.
You can cast a vote in 5
different ways for him on any given day. One by sending an SMS, one at
nba.com, one on twitter, one on facebook, one using the nba gametime
app. Actually you can vote 6 times if you also have an instagram
    account.
If I vote 5 times a day for
the remaining 64 days. I will have 320 votes in for Anthony Davis. If we
can find enough devoted fans to do this every day, that could easily make 1
million votes for Anthony Davis and that will definitely make him one of
the top vote getters. Griffin and Love will be the biggest competition for
Davis. I fell like Durant and Howard will be the top 2 vote getters in
the western conference frontcourt followed by either Love, Griffin or
    Davis.

  2. I’d say put Austin Rivers in the dunk contest, Rhyno in the 3pt shootout, Jrue/Reke in the skills challenge.

  3. Kempleton Caffeinedisaster LOL!  It’ll catch on eventually.  I keep hearing the national media calling us the Hornets.

  4. When you vote for the All-star teams at nba.com. You see the photos of the players that you chose as a starting five. Please correct me if I’m wrong but it seems like Ryan Anderson still has a photo with his Magic Jersey. So, you select five pelican players (Anderson-Davis-Evans-Gordon-Holiday) and what you see is 4 of them has the same jersey but Anderson has a different jersey. I do not like these kind of errors because I feel insulted with the “Who Cares?” approach. I do! I want to see my team’s player in my team’s jersey there! Who else cares? Anyone of you knows somebody working for nba.com or just NBA? How can we contact them to correct this error? If you provide me with an email address I’d be more than happy to send an email to someone who might correct the issue.
