Game On: Hornets @ Rockets

The Hornets play the back end of their first back-to-back of the season tonight, trying to keep their undefeated preseason alive in Houston against the Rockets.

Similarly to the first three preseason games, tonight’s game will not be televised but will be broadcast on 105.3 FM. Here’s who I’ll be watching (err… listening) for throughout tonight’s match-up against a Houston team that I believe will finish last in the Southwest Division.

Three Hornets to Watch

1) Austin Rivers – This game pits the 10th and 12th picks in the 2012 NBA draft, who happen to play the same position. Rivers will try to rebound from a tough night against the Bobcats last night, whereas Lamb will aim to build off of his 12 point, 8 rebound effort against the Thunder on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, as of right now, Lamb is questionable to play tonight with a sore foot, so the two may not even get to face off.

2) Brian Roberts – I just want to take in as much of this guy as possible. We knew nothing about him before summer league, and now he suddenly looks like he could be a legitimate backup PG for Vasquez. Is he for real? Can he keep this up? I sure hope so; it would prove to be yet another good find by this Hornets coaching staff and scouting department.

3) Al-Farouq Aminu – I don’t really care how many shots Al-Farouq makes. I’m looking at three things for him – shot location, rebounds, and turnovers. Those three areas will really be the key for him this season. If he can take smart shots, be aggressive on the glass, and limit his turnovers, he can still turn himself into a solid NBA player. If the same reckless Aminu from last year is what we get this year, then he’ll struggle to become anything more than a defensive helper off the bench.
