The Hornets partnership with United Way will allow the team to better allocate resources in regard to their community outreach programs.

The Hornets and United Way announced a partnership recently that will allow the Hornets to access United Way’s tracking tools to determine if programs are meeting their stated goals, and whether or not money and time is being used efficiently. While the Hornets have long been involved in community service programs such as the Bookmobile, camps, educational programs, and basketball court renovations, they will now be able to better track and determine if their time and monetary investment could be more efficiently used.

The way it was explained to me, as you can see in the video, is that the Hornets are a basketball organization, and even though they have a large community service program, they don’t specialize in it like the United Way does. What United Way is going to do is essentially come in, evaluate all the projects the Hornets do, and then make recommendations about how the Hornets can better use their money/time to make a bigger impact in the community.

While the big news of the past few days will obviously be that Tom Benson bought the team, the partnership between United way and the team shouldn’t be overlooked. It will undoubtedly affect countless lives in a positive way, and serve to increase the impact that the Hornets have around the community.
