Media Availability With Dell Demps

We’ll be meeting with Dell Demps today at 11:30 and will get more information regarding Marco, Jason Smith, the CBA, the Hornets’ long term and short term goals, and whatever else YOU want to know. Get your questions in now if you can, and at around 12:30 this will be replaced with a video of the press conference.

Update- The press conference has been postponed. I’m sure at some point it will still happen, so feel free to leave any questions that you have right here, and we’ll do what we can to get them answered when the time comes.

  1. Ask him how not having an owner who can validate the direction Dell wants to take the team effects his ability to make long term promises to players he wants to bring here?

Due to the fact that he can’t make long term promises, does this mean he has to pursue short term deals?

Whe a business is sold, stripping it of liability and/or long term commitments makes it more attractive to the potential buyer. Owners would prefer to choose their own investments. How does minimizing liability play in to his plan to “reload” this team?

  2. Players like to know who they will be playing for. How can he promise that he and Monty will be there? A new owner could come in and make sweeping changes. It happens all the time.

  3. Ask him Whats the biggest challenge with retaining current players on the team when they can go out and test the market, We already know about playing on a contender, but what else do players look for in a team, are there crazy stipulations that players want, fore say locker next to CP3, bottle of wine after a game, xx amount of season tickets?

  4. please ask him if we can get more athletic at the SG (the j.r. smith) and what possible trades are out there can can pursue to get us into the 2nd round and beyond.

  5. If Belinelli & Smith aren’t resigned, ask if the strategy is to move in a different direction at their spots, or if the desire is to free up more money for other free agency moves (& maybe resign them for cheaper deals).

  6. The franchise currently operates at the hands of the NBA. I wanted to Demps’s opinion on this situation. And how he thinks that this undermines your work?

    • I see there’s been at least one trade before the world ends with the lockout. Think he might be trying to make some moves pre-lockout?

  7. 5 players on contract as of now. Obviously gonna have some players to sign. How would he combat a player’s lingering doubts given that we have no real owner when trying to lure in a free agent?

If this is video taped, please name drop. I wanna gauge his poker face if you mention someone he’s going after.

  8. I’d like to see if there are any certain types of players he’s looking for. I don’t think he can mention names, but I’d like to hear what type of guys they will be hoping to add?
