Happy Thanksgiving From Hornets247

On behalf of everyone (except Michael), I want to wish all of our American readers a happy Thanksgiving. For the rest of you who may be unfamiliar with Turkey Day, it’s a time when families and strangers come together to share uncomfortable conversation while gorging themselves on foods usually reserved for Jabba the Hut. Quite a glorious holiday, really.

My table will be filled with a deep fried turkey, way too many pies, potatoes, gravy, mac and cheese, stuffing, ham, and enough champagne to kill a medium sized giraffe. Many a great Thanksgiving have been spent eating in excess and sitting on a comfortable couch. For that I am thankful.

I’m also thankful for a few more things, Hornets related. I am grateful…

  • That Peja’s deal is gone, and instead we have a nice trade exception and another quality guard. The trade exception is more valuable than the expiring contract.
  • Peja gave us so many years of good memories and never once complained. That’s rare.
  • Jarret Jack appears to be as good as advertised
  • Marcus Thornton hasn’t expressed his displeasure with sitting, and probably won’t.
  • Emeka Okafor has played in every game for the past 3+ years.
  • David West is back to bringing it every night
  • Trevor Ariza can make clutch shots.
  • Marco Belinelli can play defense
  • Willie Green is happy to come off the bench
  • Jason Smith has found a home here
  • Jerryd Bayless is gone
  • Pops has such hardcore fans
  • DJ Mbenga has such a cool name. I love to shout BENGA! when he does something great.
  • Quincy Pondexter is seeing time already
  • Aaron Gray got some action against Utah
  • Chris Paul is being Chris Paul.

I’m thankful that Tom Thibodeau ignored my letter (which has disappeared from the internet), and instead decided to go to Chicago, opening the door for Monty Williams (who I am also thankful for). It may be a little early to say this, but I get the feeling that we are watching the beginning of something special, and considering the projections and seemingly endless summer of trade rumors we went through, we deserve it.

So, Hornets fans, you may be a little disappointed with our show against the Clippers, and perhaps the Jazz game put you fully back in reality, but here’s where we are- Eleven wins and three losses, while playing one of the hardest opening schedules in the league. That’s nothing to be disappointed about, so instead I am thankful.

Gobble Gobble Gobble.

Here are my three Thanksgiving predictions, guaranteed to come true.

  1. Belinelli heads will replace the Peja heads in the arena
  2. The Hornets will win more playoff games this year than the Saints
  3. Hornets247 will host a watch party in early December

Got any of your own, or just some random thoughts about this absurd holiday?
