Marc Stein of ESPN.com is reporting via Twitter that Luther Head will join the Hornets on a 2-year, 2.3 million dollar deal.
Luther Head is a combo guard, standing 6′-3″, and has spent his career playing in Houston and Indiana to this point. He’s got a career three-point rate of 38%, though last year was one of his worst shooting the ball from deep. He’s got skills enough to both play backup point and shooting guard, but not enough skills to ever be considered seriously as a starter at those positions – or really, even your first guard off the bench.
Of course, the Hornets already have a pretty solid three-guard rotation in place, and as a fourth guard getting spot minutes or filling in for injuries, he’s a reasonable pick-up at that salary, which is only about 250k more than the minimum salary per year.
In the end, I’m not excited about the signing, but it’s still a fine pickup. He’ll do adequately as a 9th or 10th guy.
