The Hornets’ summer league entry takes on the Golden State Warriors tonight. If you have NBATV, you can catch it, starting at 9:00 PM CST. The Hornets will be led by fan favorites Darren Collison and Marcus Thornton, but there should be some good cameo’s by Quincy Pondexter and Craig Brackins. All four of those, the Hornets hope, will be rotation players, and possibly even a whip-quick second unit used to jumpstart the tempo of a game.
Also featured on the Hornets squad is Aubrey Coleman, the NCAA’s leading scorer. Standing at 6’1″, yet still an amazing rebounder and slasher, the Hornets really liked Aubrey after a workout he had with Xavier Henry and Gordon Haywood. They were working before the draft was even over on draft night to get him onto the summer league team when it appeared he might not be selected. Aubrey does have an opportunity here, with the Hornets only having three guards currently on their roster. ((One side note, Coleman is best known for being the guy who stomped on Chase Budinger’s face. That’s unfortunate.))
The Warriors will roll out Brandan Wright and Reggie Williams (who lit up the Hornets last year in a real game) and should be solid despite Anthony Randolph being traded to the Knicks and draft pick Epke Udoh being injured.
Anyways, if you’re watching the game, feel free to log your observations in the comments. I’ll be coming up with a full recap after the game.
