The Associated Press is reporting that “sale talks between George Shinn and minority owner Gary Chouest have reached an “impasse,” and that Shinn now wants to speak with other possible buyers.”
I don’t have a lot to say. The sale was so promising and smooth-seeming, the cynic in me tells me I should have known better. I mean, it was ideal. Chouest is Louisiana through and through and very wealthy. The front office wasn’t going to be shaken up, allowing the team to not worry about new owners storming the castle and cleaning house. The indications were that aggressive action this summer and next season was in the offing. Now? Who knows.
I feel a bit like a rug has been pulled out from under me.
Let’s just hope this is a bargaining tactic.
