Let’s see what we’ve got here

So I was laying in bed last night wondering how birds have sex, as I often do. When I was done with that, I started to consider our 2007-2008 New Orleans Hornets. My thoughts…

Six guys from last season's roster — Desmond Mason, Devin Brown, Jannero Pargo, Marc Jackson, Linton Johnson and Brandon Bass — are free agents as of today, July 1st. Of that group, Devin Brown is the only guy I can see re-signed, and possibly Pargo if nobody else offers him a ridiculous contract. Given that, here's what Byron Scott would have to work with…

PG – Chris Paul, Bobby Jackson, Jannero Pargo
SG – Peja Stojakovic, Devin Brown, Adam Haluska
SF – Rasual Butler, Julian Wright, Marcus Vinicius
PF – David West, Cedric Simmons
C – Tyson Chandler, Hilton Armstrong

That's 13 guys, so we'd have two spots left on the roster. If anyone forsees a significant contributor coming via free agency, congratulations, you're more optimistic than me. We might be able to pick up a Jason Kapono but that will be as good as it gets. Therefore, the bunch above is pretty much what the Hornets will go to battle with.

I threw Rasual in as the starting 3, although you could probably switch him up with Peja. If we were to start Peja and Rasual though, you know we're getting crucified on D. Neither of those guys could hold a fart, let alone the half million killer swingmen in the West. If I'm Byron Scott, I'd probably switch it up depending on the opponent. Against Denver, for example, you'd probably want to start Bobby Jackson to combat Iverson, and just pray Carmelo Anthony is sick that day.

I figure Julian Wright won't come in as a starter right away, but hopefully he'll be able to develop and earn more minutes as the season progresses. That said, if the scouting reports are to be believed, he'll probably be the best wingman we have defensively so he could play a surprisingly big role early on.

Right about then, I started thinking about those birds again.
