The Suns beat the Hornets

Tough game for the Hornets yesterday. They got beat in Phoenix, 92-83, ending their second four-game win streak of the season.

See, no defense!

There's a few things we can look at and moan about with this game, but fact is the Hornets played the second game of a back-to-back on the road against a team that is way better than their record suggests, and David West is still out. Shit happens, and we move on.

Well, not moving on just yet. News and notes to check first…

  • Linkage: box | recap | video | photos
  • Byron Scott went with a starting lineup of CP, Bobby Jackson, Peja, Mase and Tyson to match the Suns uptempo play. The result was a bench that contributed just 8 points.
  • Varying opinions on the game over at the HR boards, most of which question Byron Scott's moves last night.
  • Another game, another record for the Hornets. This from the AP report

The Hornets hit nine of 18 shots in the first quarter but only 25 of their final 67. New Orleans had just seven assists, matching a franchise low and setting a Phoenix team mark for the fewest allowed.

That's even worse when you consider Chris Paul had 4 of those assists, along with his 18 points.

  • It is pretty miserable to score just 83 points against the Suns. I mean, they're the Suns. They don't stop people. Byron Scott prefers to look on the bright side though…

"You forget about it. Take the positives, and the positives are that we held a team that averages 108 points a game to 92."

  • Steve Nash led the Suns with 24 and 7, while Raja Bell and Boris Diaw dropped 18 apiece on us. Boris Boris Boris. Amare Stoudemire had 0 points in 21 minutes. Tragic.
  • Peja led the Hornets with 21 points, though 14 of those came in the first quarter. Desmond Mason also had 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Tyson Chandler scored 4 and grabbed 16. He's averaging 11.9 boards a game, btw, good enough for fifth in the L.
  • Rasual Butler is really earning that contract, averaging 4.5ppg this season on 34% shooting. I seem to remember him playing pretty bad this time last season, too.
  • Whole bunch of notes and stuff from this blog over at AZcentral.com, while Darnell Mayberry is also back blogging and dropped some notes pregame yesterday. I figure Mayberry is working overtime to impress since The Oklahoman started hiring more reporters to cover the Hornets.

The Hornets are now 8-4 on the season, good enough for second in the division and fourth in the conference. We're looking up at the 8-3 Lakers, the 10-2 Spurs and the 11-1 Jazz. Full standings here.

That's a wrap for now except for this mysterious bonus link. It's worth it, trust me.
