The Jazz beat the Hornets

So the Jazz pretty much blew out the Hornets in Oklahoma City yesterday. Just like that, our bumbling Bees have lost three of their last four and five of their last nine. We're left sitting 1.5 games behind the Denver Clippers for one of those awesome and funky Playoff spots. Oh, and there's that really tough three-game road trip starting tomorrow.

I couldn't find a good pic of Tyson Chandler, ok?

To properly emphasize this shitty state of affairs, I wrote an as yet untitled song about the Hornets performance of late. It goes like this…

The Hornets are losing, pisses me off
Playing like crap, they won't make the Playoffs
And that will make me sad, I might just cry cry cry
But then I'll make a sandwich and forget about it

It's not finished yet, but you can already see its brilliance. As Rafer Alston would say, it really captures the feel of the feeling.

On to the notes and stuff…

  • Linkage: box | recap | video | standings
  • Final score was 108-94. The Hornets raced out to a 7-0 start, but were playing catch-up after Mehmet Okur went apeshit in the second quarter, scoring 14 points in a six minute stretch. He finished with 28 points and 9 rebounds.
  • The Deron Williams / Chris Paul battle was whatever. Deron scored 20 and dished 6, while CP scored 14 and dished 13 on a bad shooting night. Phil Miller of the SLT is loving the rivalry.
  • From the AP report

The Jazz overcame a 10-point deficit in a victory for the 14th time this season. No NBA team has done that as many times.

    Also…

After holding opponents to 43.9 percent shooting before the All-Star game, the Hornets allowed their first six opponents to shoot 50 percent and average 101.5 points.

  • Once again, Tyson Chandler played like his momma never loved him, this time going off 20 points and 19 rebounds. Despite that gargantuan effort, the Hornets were out-rebounded 47-37.
  • Carlos Boozer led the rebounding effort for Utah, snagging 12 to go with his 17 points. Derek Fisher was the only Jazz player not to grab a rebound out there, the slacker.
  • Milk carton: Rasual Butler. His first DNP-CD of the season.
  • Das game was of course on ESPN, and the spotlight has not been kind to the Hornets this season. As John Rohde notes

The Hornets are 1-3 in nationally televised games this season. Their losses have been by an average of 21.3 points to San Antonio (103-77); Detroit (92-68) and Utah (108-94).

  • Chris Andersen was in the building. Darnell Mayberry has the full story.

In some better news, Marcus Vinicius got plenty of burn in the first game of his latest D-League stint. Playing down in Fort Worth yesterday, he scored 18 points (box | recap), all of them with his hands. Marcus did shoot just 6-of-16 from the field and the 66ers lost, but those are just irrelevant details. Tsk tsk.
