Welcome to the New Year! Michael and I talk about the positive and negatives things we saw during the games over the holidays, including the stinkers against the Clippers and Wolves, as well as positive signs like Evans’ aggressiveness, Aminu’s string of solid games, Jrue Holiday’s growing comfort in the system, and Anthony Davis ongoing awesomeness.

We also talk about not calling timeouts at the end of the game, whether the team is better or worse with Gordon, and why is Brian Roberts playing over Austin Rivers?

Give us a call to sound off! 504-322-3333.

While I agree that Gordon has basically been reduced to a shooter and that skill can be had for much cheaper, I don't agree with putting Tyreke in the starting lineup.

He relentlessly attacks the rim against guys that are already starting to tire.  It's this scenario that makes him far more effective.  I don't believe he'd be that effective attacking against a fresh starting five.

I was so stoked when we signed him.  I'm very happy to see him settling in after a rough stretch.

I agree. Why fix something that isn't broken. I don't know the exact number but since about the second week of the season Tyreke has around a 22 PER. He's been fantastic coming off the bench this year with his scoring mentality. The problem with placing him into the starting lineup is that it can sometimes cause a player to press. For example, Anderson's shot has looked broken since being inserted as a starter. Love Tyreke as the 6th man and I think Monty and Dell do too. If they see him as the 6th when we are contenders, why would they play him as a starter now. Let him grow and become dominant in that role.

@Caffeinedisaster But then why not put AD on the second unit? Or Jrue? I mean, they would be far more effective against backups, right?

I want my best players out there as much as possible and I want them outplaying the other teams' best players.

@Hank_ I try not to focus on starting. I focus on minutes and effectiveness. He is playing less than he ever has in his career (on average), but is more effective in his aggregate play. As noted, he's only getting better. He's been trusted to close games, and more.

I have never and will never get the value of starting. I feel it is fool's not-even-gold. It's a distraction.

Just set the players up to succeed and let them succeed. If fans don't get it, tough. If the players don't get it, make them get it or send them out.
