Why You Shouldn’t Care Where Chris Paul WANTS To Be Traded.

It’s been a long time since I’ve written for this site. I used to post journals quite often. But I’ve had a lot of changes that have taken up much of my time, and keeping me from doing ANY writing what so ever.

But I do read all the articles and comments posted here still. Usually from my phone while I’m stuck in traffic (thank god, no tickets for that yet). And i’ve been Tweeting with many of you in regards to a lot of the situations that have been going on.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. My two favorite teams in the league are the Lakers, and the Hornets, and my two favorite players are Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul. This article has nothing to do with my dream or desire to see them play together. This article has to do with the future of the Hornets, and their ability to:

1. Bounce back as quickly as possible IF they lose CP3.

2. Make the playoffs this season and do well whether he is on the roster or not.

I am still a New Orleans Hornets fan regardless of where CP plays. And that is why I want more then anything to see the RIGHT trade be made as opposed for settling for something, or doing what makes Chris Paul happy.

It’s no secret. The “Rumor” is that Chris Paul wants to be a New York Knick so he can team up with his buddies Melo and Amare (I absolutely HATE the nickname STAT, and refuse to call him that. If he ever learns to do something other then score, like get 15 rebounds and 3 blocks a game along with his 20 points, then maybe I’ll consider it). But just because CP3 wants to be a Knick doesn’t mean we have to settle for a BS trade of Billups/Dougless/ and a 2035 draft pick.

If Dell Demps makes that trade, or a trade similar to that, then he deserves to be fired (that is unless it’s actually the league forcing his hand, in which case I might hate basketball forever knowing they did something of the sort). The point is to make a decision that is going to be best suited for this organization and set us up for long term and short term success.

We have another solid Point Guard on the roster in Jarrett Jack. He isn’t everyones favorite player. But IF I WERE DEMPS, aside from Russell Westbrook, I dont see any PG in the league right now thats potentially available, that I can make a deal for, that I’d want. So for now, I’d actually stick with Jack as a starter, and look to the next draft to find a PG of the future to build with.

I am a traditionalist when it comes to basketball. Being a PURE PG, whenever I make any kind of team, or look to join a team, my first inclination is to find a CENTER to build around. And I know some of you are happy with Okafor, but in all honesty, I am not even remotely happy with him as a Center, and still see him as more of a Power Forward.

If I am Demps, one deal I would seriously consider doing is trading Chris Paul to the Lakers for Andrew Bynum. There might need to be some parts involved to get this deal done, but the basis of the deal is that.

Why would I do this?

Again, I AM a Laker fan and love seeing the team do well, but AGAIN, I want New Orleans to do well too. And aside from Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum is THE BEST CENTER in the league. Yes, he has had injury problems and has had trouble staying on the court. But do any of you know WHY Bynum has had problems thus far?

The injuries Bynum has had thus far are due to his sheer size. The guy was 7’1 300 pounds since he turned 18 years old. The amount of stress he put on his STILL GROWING bones was MASSIVE. He is still just a KID. He is only 23 years old right now. And every doctor that has seen him has said that he is FINALLY starting to develop strong enough muscle and bone to sustain his weight (basically his balls have dropped and he’s finally becoming a man).

I’ve been to Laker practices before. And you know what Phil did in almost EVERY practice? He had Pau and Bynum play 1 on 1 at the end of practices so Bynum could become better defensively, and Pau could work on his offense. And you know what? Bynum beat Pau 9 times out of 10. He is TOO physically strong for anyone other then Dwight Howard to guard. And even Dwight struggles to push Bynum back.

Bynum HATES being the 4th option on the team (Kobe. Pau. Lamar). He’s a young guy who’s dying to show the league how good he is. And he has the talent to be unstoppable (he is better skilled offensively then Dwight).

So lets say we make this deal and start building a team THE RIGHT WAY, around a true CENTER. Where do we go from there? Again, Jack is fine for a season as a starting PG. Not long term. But for a season, he’s fine. My goal would be to focus on the upcoming draft to land an long term PG. Let’s say… Austin Rivers? As for other moves, If we land Bynum, I’d look to move Emeka as soon as possible. D West probably wont sign here again. So it be necessary to find a SF/PF that is young and defensive minded.

Um. How about Josh Smith from Atlanta? Emeka for Smith works straight up. And even though Josh Smith is 6’9, but more of a SF playing PF, if you had a Center like Bynum covering the middle, it would make up for that, and only become a fast break advantage since Bynum is a GREAT outlet passer off of his offensive rebounds.

Lastly, we’d need a shooter to help balance the floor, and with D West not coming back, we’d have SOME money to spend on a guy like Afflalo, Nick Young, or maybe even bring back MT5 to fill the starting shooting guard spot.

I know some of you are hoping the Clips give up Eric Gordon and DeAndre Jordan. But I just dont see them giving BOTH of them up for Chris Paul. I can see them trading Gordon for CP. But I know they’d  want to save Jordan for a potential Howard deal too, or just to keep Jordan around to make sure Griffin is happy since the two are best friends.

Here’s a link to some of Bynums highlights. I really think if we trade CP, he’s the guy we should go after. And YES, the Lakers WOULD trade him for Chris Paul.
