UPDATE: ESPN’s Marc Stein chimed in on Jamison and the Hornets in Tuesday’s Daily Dime, writing that New Orleans “has a level or interest in [him].”

But Stein writes that sources “expressed skepticism that a suitable deal can be assembled before the deadline.”

Further, Stein reports the Cavs may not see much benefit in buying out his contract if no trade occurs.

“With word reaching us this week that the Cavs also see little benefit to buying out Jamison (one of their few coveted assets) if no trade materializes in the next two-plus weeks, odds start to increase that Jamison will be brought back with Scott for the new season — whenever that might be post-lockout — given how admirably they’ve been coping with what’s happened since Cleveland’s forgotten 7-9 start,” wrote Stein.

Antawn Jamison is often listed as one of the most likely players on the Cavs to get traded this season.

But as ESPN The Magazine’s Ric Bucher writes in his chat Friday, a buyout could come for Jamison if he’s not dealt before the Feb. 24 trade deadline.

And if that’s the case, the Hornets could come calling.

Bucher explains:

Jamison a good fit for the Hornets

“Likeliest [to get traded is] Jamison. Cavs will try to deal him, but if it doesn’t happen I would expect a buyout. And the team likeliest to sign him after that is New Orleans right now. They need a stretch 4 and he would be perfect.”
